Welcome

A warm welcome to the website of the Swiss Embassy in Singapore!
Far apart but close at heart: Switzerland and Singapore share a relationship that has grown into a remarkable partnership. Our historical ties date back to the early to mid-19th century, when Swiss merchants first settled in Singapore, and were formalized with the establishment of the Swiss consulate in 1917 and official diplomatic relations in 1967.
These early economic links have grown steadily over time. Today, more than 1,300 Swiss companies operate in Singapore, employing over 25,000 people. With more than 2,500 Swiss citizens living here, Singapore is home to a well-organised Swiss community supported by a broad network of institutions spanning community life, business, and education.
At the heart of this community are four key organisations. The Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Singapore (SwissCham) advocates for Swiss business interests and connects companies operating between Switzerland and Singapore. The Swiss Association of Singapore (SAS) is a non-profit bringing together Swiss nationals and friends of Switzerland through social, cultural, and recreational events throughout the year. The Swiss Club Singapore, founded in 1871, offers a recreational and social home for members of all nationalities in a lush, heritage setting. The Swiss School in Singapore (SSiS), established in 1967, provides a Swiss-curriculum education to children from kindergarten through secondary level.
Switzerland's institutional presence extends further, with the Swiss National Bank maintaining a branch office here, and several Swiss higher education institutions — IMD, the Singapore-ETH Centre, EHL Hospitality Business School, and the St. Gallen Institute of Management in Asia — active in research and education.
Through regular ‘Swiss Pillars’ meetings and ongoing collaboration, these organisations form a close network that reflects the breadth of Switzerland's ties with Singapore.
Switzerland and Singapore have much in common. Both being small in size, we are strongly committed to a rules-based international order and a robust multilateral system grounded in, effectiveness, transparency and trust. Recent agreements and initiatives between our two countries—including the EFTA–Singapore Digital Economy Agreement, our joint participation in the Future of Investment and Trade (FIT) Partnership and strengthened mutual legal assistance—underscore our shared commitment to open markets, innovation, and close partnership.
Ranked among the most innovative countries globally, both states have a strong focus on technology and innovation to drive their economies. Well established Swiss innovation centres and educational institutions in Singapore exemplify this shared mission. Emerging sectors in finance, particularly fintech and sustainable finance, as well as new technologies like AI and quantum computing, offer promising new opportunities for collaboration. By continuously exchanging ideas, learning from one another, and working together, we are confident that our bilateral relations will continue to flourish.
It is within this context of a strong and prospering Swiss-Singapore partnership that I have the honour to serve as Chargé d’affaires ad interim, leading our mission during a transitional period from May to July 2026, until the arrival of our next Ambassador, Mrs. Alexandra Baumann.
